As promised, today I will be sharing a bit about hospital stays and providing some necessary items that you may want to bring along during your visit! A couple of weeks ago, I shared with you all a little bit about my husband and I’s journey as we navigated through his cancer diagnosis and treatment. As I implied, we spent many long hours and days in the hospital. I quickly learned what types of things would help pass the time and also make you feel more comfortable, or as comfortable as you can feel in a hospital setting. If you are planning on having surgery, a baby, or any type of hospital stay, you may want to add these things to your list to bring!
At times, the hospital rooms can get a bit chilly. Having nice warm socks or slippers will not only keep you warm, but also give you a higher level of comfort (or as comfortable as you could possibly be in a hospital room)!
Always bring your own sweatpants of leggings! I understand that the hospital will offer you a robe to wear, however, if you are anything like me, I DO NOT like wearing them! I always feel like everything is going to be exposed! YIKES! When I had both of my babies, I brought clothes from home, again, to gain more comfort.
Before I had Charlie, somebody told me to bring my own pillow to the hospital. I didn’t think it was necessary at first but then I decided to take one anyway, and I am so glad I did. When you are used to sleeping with a particular pillow at night, sleeping with an uncomfortable hospital pillow can prevent a good night sleep. 100 Magical Patterns: An Adult Coloring Book
I don’t know if this is the teacher in me, or if I happen to still be a kid at heart, but I love to color! It is so relaxing and therapeutic, which was definitely something I needed during that time.
Crayola Colored Pencils Adult Coloring
If you have a coloring book, you must have colored pencils too! These are the ones I have. There are SO many colors and work well with the small tedious spaces of the coloring pages! Doesn’t hurt that these are on sale right now!
Books are always a great way to pass time. I honestly can’t say that I read much, however, when you are confined to a hospital bed for hours, or days, it all of a sudden begins to sound appealing 🙂 Amazon has such a huge selection of books that you will absolutely be able to find something that is right for you! If you don’t have prime, YOU SHOULD! Every order if shipped FREE in two business days. You can also purchase digital books if you prefer reading with a technological device. I have linked “Girl Wash Your Face” by Rachel Hollis. I have heard so many great things about it and it’s on sale today!
Bicycle Standard Index Playing Cards
You would be surprised at how many card games you can play by yourself with a simple deck of cards such as Solitaire. There are also games you can play if there is somebody there to keep you company such as speed, slap jack, black jack, etc.
If you don’t own an ipad, or kindle of some sort, this would be a great investment! Not only are there an unlimited amount of apps and games to download, but you can also watch movies and shows, as well! This would also allow you to keep up to date on emails or any work related items that may be on your to do list (not that you would want to do that if you are in the hospital)!
Whether you are watching movies, listening to music, or drowning out the sound of a hospital machine beeping in the background, earbuds can be a lifesaver! These cord-free earbuds makes it super convenient to get up and move around when needed!
Oh, and don’t forget
-Granola Bars (Kind are a good, healthy brand)

– Gum
– Snack Mix

-Etc. Etc. Etc.
